Why Otis Rules, Part 31

My "don't give a crap" attitude towards poker continued last night with a very hoohum showing in the Riverchasers game. I just can't seem to get motivated to give a rat's ass about playing with anything resembling my modest low level skills. Too much time spent crunching numbers and taking care of business I suppose. Only 7 more tournaments left to get my seat in the TOC and I don't see it happening without a huge breakthrough in spectacular lucksack fashion. The cards will need to play themselves because I can't seem to find it in me to play them.

Congrats to Chad for getting the next seat in the Tournament of Champions, from what I saw he managed to weave his way through a monster minefield much better than the rest. "Any two cards!!!" seemed to be the rallying call of the players last night. I stuck around until the final table but was pulled away before the end. I do remember telling Riggs that if noollab managed to make the TOC I just might commit poker suicide.

Thanks to sellthekid's 20th place finish I was forced to do extra curricular math to figure out the Player of the Week winner. I'm waiting on confirmation about his entry into the $750k this Sunday.

~

Vegas plans are pretty much locked up including some covert operations trying to add some old timers to the trip. If you are still on the fence, Otis put up a youtube clip with a crap load of pictures from various gatherings including Vegas, the Bash, and Brad-o-ween.

Enjoy and comment freely.

~

Myself and others often spend way too much time dealing with, and commenting about, general poker douchebaggery. We all handle jackasses our own way. It would be impossible to have such a large group of people with the same interest and have them all be the same. Douchebags happen.

Then I'm reminded of the other 99% who make my time in this corner of the internet worth hanging around for.

Many know of Dr. Chako, some may not. Dr. Chako is a fellow poker blogger who just happens to spending some time over in the great big sandbox of Iraq. He is a doctor serving in the military spending time away from his friends and family to serve the country. The last time I saw him was at last December blogger gathering during the tournament. He was on the unfortunate side of one of my suckouts (my KK cracking his AA) and I won his bounty. One of his hats from his last tour of Iraq complete with his old Captain's bar attached. Knowing he was soon to be deployed again, I took the bounty as a great honor. That hat sits on my dresser as a reminder to be thankful of our service men and women.

Long story coming round about.

Otis, just about the coolest blogger to scribe words about poker, sent Dr. Chako a present from halfway around the world. I don't know the details behind it but you can check it here. Otis sent an autographed Gibson/Epiphone acoustic guitar from G-Vegas to Iraq for no other reason than that's just what he does.

For every douche out there, we have 99 others like Otis.

Don't play distracted

If ever there was a time when I didn't feel like playing poker it was last night. I would much rather have spent my time sitting comfortably on my favorite barstool talking about nothing more strenuous than the next booze order and how to continue the run of hotties showing up. Since I was already registered for the Mookie and backed out several times in the last week I felt I should head to Chez CantHang for an appearance.

I would have been better off staying at the pub and I would have lasted longer. Maybe 10% of my attention was on the game with the other 90% concentrating on TV, puppy, and cell phone. That made it real easy to read my action since I was playing like a tight donkey running 16 tables with nothing but ABC poker. No action on any big cards, got myself shorty when the puppy needed attention, then pushed with the hammer because it only seemed proper.

Congrats to RecessRampage for getting the latest TOC seat. We're coming down to the wire so I expect the fields to start growing. For those thinking smart, next Thursday game should be another great chance to get into the TOC with a short field since a ton of bloggers will be sitting at the real felt instead of online.

Mike Maloney left a comment about the TOC and freeroll. They are listed under the private tab on December 20th. The TLB freeroll (top 50 players total) begins at 9pm ET and the Tournaments of Champions begins at 10pm. Both have nice structures and I imagine quite a few in the TOC will be concentrating more on that then the freeroll.

There is also a statistical dead heat at the top of the board for Player of the Week between sellthekids and RecessRampage. If that tie doesn't get broken this evening, I'm going to need to drill down to the next .01 of a point. Good times for me.

Hopefully we'll see a nice turnout at the Riverchasers game tonight. I'm going to attempt a sober effort to get into the final game but my odds are long and my game is weak.

Countdown commence

My tiny little footprint on the net has been getting smaller and smaller the last few weeks but not because of anything major. Nothing extraordinary and spectacular is occurring other than prepping my mind and liver for the upcoming Vegas trip. Things will be low and quiet for the next week as I try to complete some major projects before blasting my brain to pieces.

Two weeks from now the blogs will be full of details about degenerate gambling, hookers, and booze. Somebody will fall down, some will write about missing key elements of the trip because they will be comatose in their smelly room at the IP, most will talk about the good times as bloggers line up to take money from tourists. There will be talks about playing "find the hooker" or how many quads Otis hit playing video poker. Some fine dining will be done in place of the standard of eating once a day if necessary.

The first timers will be stunned at the number of online knuckleheads crowded around a little bar in MGM Sportsbook. Old timers, like myself, will try to refrain from dropping cameras in other people's beers. Dr. Pauly will talk with anyone, I will drink with anyone, and Iggy will curse at anyone. If Daddy were there it might get really interesting. Next Friday you will see the first blogger to login from their room just to let everyone know they are alive. Others won't post a single note until a week after recovery.

Somewhere in there everyone needs to find time to enjoy themselves, find someone you've wanted to meet and knock back a shot or ten. Some have come back from these gatherings disappointed that they spent so much time at the tables they missed out on something bizarre while others are cheesed they didn't spend enough time throwing chips. Find a good middle that fits your frame of mind and run with it.

There are some friends missing this trip which is disappointing but there are others that I am looking forward to meeting for the first time. I'll try my best to be vertical and somewhat responsive up until midnight each day. After that, good luck catching me being coherent. Iggy is my drunken translator if that tells you anything.

One week.

Congrats to cmitch for winning the MATH on Monday. I had a very good excuse for missing the tournament, other than pure rebuy silliness, that I will keep to myself. Tonight I will be there for the Mookie, either from the pub if the wifi router gets set up or from the comfy confines of my couch if not.

Metal Health

"What is it with blogger gatherings and dead metal legends?"

BadBlood
That's the email returned to me from BadBlood when I sent him this story. Kevin Dubrow, lead singer of Quiet Riot, was found dead in his Vegas home on Sunday. No word on the cause of death but another dead legend. Quiet Riot was the first metal band to have their album atop the BillBoard Charts in 1983.

It was just days before the very first blogger gathering in 2004 when Dimebag Darrell was shot while playing onstage in Columbus, OH.

R.I.P. Kevin DuBrow.

I fully intended to spend a weekend hitting up a bunch of the guarantee tourneys on Full Tilt to see what kind of run I could put together. No particular reason other than trying to prove to myself that I can transition from cash game to MTT game successfully. Unfortunately I couldn't keep a sober head on my shoulders and spent most of my waking hours in two conditions. Drunk or in the process of getting drunk.

Having this new pub right down the road will certainly be the death of me. A ton of booze, good people, and some fine examples of the female form in the place on a nightly basis. All just a few drunken steps from my front door. Time to update the "Blogger Death Pool".

Landow passed along a picture from the very first day in the pub. Last Sunday I started off buying the first drink at the bar just passed 11am. By midway through the 1pm Eagles game, I killed my first bottle. The rest is history and completely downhill.

~

Congrats to Mike_Maloney on his run in the $750k last night. He finished just out of the top 100 of the 4000+ lemurs who bought in. He was the only of the 4 BBTwo rolled players in event to make the money but everyone made a good showing.

There are only 10 spots left in the Battle of the Blogger Tournaments 2 Aussie Millions Freeroll (really really really need a shorter name). Tonight is the MATH with another new format. This time it will be a $10 rebuy event. That might lower the numbers of entrants and raise the prizepool at the same time. Smaller field means better shot at the freeroll.
