Poker > Real Life

Once again the moment I mention having any sort of life outside of the fours walls o' employment I get jacked up again. Yesterday was a pleasant one with where I was heads down the entire day until the sun set. Lunch didn't occur to me until sometime around 5pm which consisted of Lay's potato chips and some peanut butter/brownie abortion. By the time I left I knew the pager was going to hose my night up and it didn't disappoint. It seems that I don't abuse the closet dwelling code monkeys enough so they feel comfortable calling anytime, all the time.

I didn't even have to wait until the last minute to un-register from the Mookie, it was the first thing I did once powering up the laptop before pouring my idiot ass back into respectable worker bee mode.

It seems I must have missed an interesting time last night though. Checking the final results this morning getting the Leaderboard up to date showed a crap load of good poker players not only not making it deep but finishing near the very bottom. Couldn't tell if it was Suckout City or just dumb luck. Might have been a good chance to sit out for the first hour and let everything settle.

~

If Howard Lederer were to call you a "freak" and a "weird dude", would you consider it an insult?

~

And now we have the newest definition of the "afternoon shift".

~

Tonight is the fun, let loose, donk away my dead money night. I'll be at the bar early with JDub and friends drinking away my standard weak-ass punk-tight poker style and change into a maniac ATC lemur cash giveaway machine. Free money walking. I'll be camped out at the bar with smokes and booze at hand, if you can't take my money perhaps you should take up rummy or go fish. I am that bad when sober, my drunk play is painful.

Since I'm going to be half in the bag and playing oh so well, it's bounty time. Knock me out this evening and I'll send you $26 for a MATH buyin next week.

Tonight is all also your last vague hope of catching Kaja at the top of the Week 3 leaderboard to get into the $750k Sunday Guarantee this Sunday.

We are 1/3 of the way through the challenge and the numbers have been fantastic. Thanks to everyone for pimping and getting people involved. If you haven't won your way into the TOC there is still the write in campaign where FTP will pick two winners as their "sponsor exemptions". Everyone just got another free shot at it when Kaja won his way into the freeroll and won't need his exemption.

Drink well and see you this evening. I've been a little lax on my chippy pics so that will be my afternoon assuming the ingrate mouthbreathers don't track me down again.

ADD and the Drunken Lemur

Dear LJ has an amusing post up about making sure to eat before drinking. I myself prefer to abstain from any solid foods many hours before consuming alcoholic beverages. I'm not trying to join the Boy Scouts, I'm looking to get sloppy. Speak too loud, curse too much, and tell ridiculous stories over too much booze. Yesterday afternoon was no different. There was a stated goal that had to be met and there was no time for delay. Quick, precise, and drunk by sundown. By the time east coasters were heading home from work I had 4 wins in 4 SnG's plus probably a bottle and a half of the good stuff. Poor Jim didn't even try to keep up with me this time.

During these benders we always end up firing on the laptops for some low limit lemur trapping as a way to unwind and punish those who play low and sober. Unfortunately sometimes there is a lapse in attention. Like when I was playing Jim in a cheapy HU Horse SnG. I've missed the switch from Razz to Stud Hi before but never holding something like this.

The game is now 60/120 Limit Stud Hi with an ante of 10
15:00:50 ET - 2007/11/06
Seat 1: riggstad (855)
Seat 2: AlCantHang (2,145)
riggstad antes 10
AlCantHang antes 10
*** 3RD STREET ***
Dealt to riggstad [4s]
Dealt to AlCantHang [Jd Jc] [Js]
riggstad is low with [4s]
riggstad completes it to 60
AlCantHang has 15 seconds left to act
AlCantHang folds
Uncalled bet of 60 returned to riggstad
riggstad mucks
riggstad wins the pot (20)
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 20 | Rake 0
Seat 1: riggstad collected (20), mucked
Seat 2: AlCantHang folded on 3rd St.

Moron.

Best part was that Jim didn't realize we had switched to Stud either. I could have ended the match right there.

Tonight is the Mookie, big daddy of the blogger games. We'll be giving out the 9th seat for the Battle of the Blogger Tournaments TOC and the crowd should be large. Also keep in mind that we're moving towards the halfway point where the player at the top of the Leaderboard will get a $500 buyin to the FTOPS Main Event.

Be sure to hit up Buddy Dank radio this evening for your music and play-by-play. Lucko also has an interesting prop bet going for the BBT tournaments. Get your picks and money on your favorites. Inside betting information, don't pick me.

Deth by Metal

"Happy Birthday
You're gonna die"
Dethklok

Fantastic times we're having.

By the time I got home last night from working late I knew there was zero chance of making the MATH last night. Pagers ringing off the hook like it's their damned job, which it is, and work trumps poker. There's a huge difference between bailing on a poker game for a nice set of gams and laying it down because some cellar dwelling developer got a flaming bug up his ass. Not only did I get stuck working through the MATH but I've been up since 4am this morning with more righteous bullshit.

Hell, Speaker was probably just putting his beer fueled ass in the sack by then.

Thanks to this situation I have finally put aside any remaining island vibes that were remaining. I have some old and new school death metal shooting sonic bullets directly into my skull. A little Slayer, wee bit of Megadeth, even some Euro-keyboard trash metal. I'm jacked up on caffeine and sugar ready to destroy the next sniveling weasels that walks into my office. I almost feel bad I didn't get to witness any first class whiny bitchy blogger fun last night.

~

The "new school" stuff I'm listening today is my third go through of Dethklok. After returning from Key West I received a birthday care package from BaconBikini Mary. So thoughtful to send me box with a nice new death metal CD and DVD. At this point I had never heard of Dethklok and neither had metal god BadBlood. I figured it was just some band that slipped through the cracks, it's nearly impossible to keep track of every Swedish-Norwegian-Finnish grunting metaller. My mistake was listening to the CD before watching the DVD. The music was crunchy but the lyrics were amusing.

Then I watched the DVD. Who knew there was a new show on Adult Swim involving a fictional death metal band call Metalocalypse? This shit is fucked up hilarious. Time to setup something else on the DVR. I definitely recommend picking up the CD and DVD. Everyone but Waffles can give it a listen, I'm pretty sure he'd pee himself and not just a little. Poor little troll doll, can't wait to get him drunk on a virgin mary in Vegas.

Once again, Mary of the BaconBikini rules all. If anyone wants to give it a preview listen, drop me a line and I'll get you the link to a few of the songs. Such goodies as Bloodrocuted, Better Metal Snake, Briefcase Full of Guts, and Castratikon. Operators are standing by waiting on the BoyGenius to jump to the front.

~

I wish I had a chance to check out the action last night in the MATH with the 6-max format. Seems some craziness must have occurred. When I checked the tournament in the wee hours of the morning I saw our host way down near the bottom and it sounds like he was on the wrong side of a bad hammer play. The Year of the Hammer is almost over, can we let it go after that?

Next up is the Mookie on Wednesday. Our host will be partying it up in Vegas so we it's only natural to tear up his house while he is gone. Anyone say kegger?

By the time you read this I will be lubricating my innards with amber liquid. Up at 4am at the bar by noon, it's a give and take relationship. When riggy (aka Riggstad aka Riverchaser Jim aka my drunken DD) mentioned that I should leave work early I agreed so we're going to have a drinking/working/not-really-working lunch.

Dull, boring, and wonderful

I bailed on my own tournament Thursday night. You'll have to forgive me for letting my dead stack float there after playing for just under an hour. The siren call of booze, broads, and bourbon was too tough to resist. I floated around several bars and many chica's until after midnight. Y'all can have your virtual cards, I'll make that sacrifice every damned time.

Friday involved an early morning trip to the Jersey shore which involved hanging around the Borgata card room for several hours without playing a single damned hand. You can't begin to understand how frustrating that can be. I didn't sit down at a table, wander aimlessly to play some craps, or even hit up the nearby liquor-arium. I was there for nothing but business, the sacrifices I make for you guys.

Friday night was a belated birthday dinner with my parents. Belly full of chicken marsala, veal parm, and chicken cannelloni. The only thing missing was the Lemoncello and Grappa. The rest of the weekend was spent feet up and eyes closed.

The sweet sweet life of an internet poser rock star. Who needs strippers?

~

If you get a chance, check out Lou Krieger's post about Jerry Yang (haven't been able to find the link from his Holdem Radio appearance with Lou and loverly Amy). After the last reigning WSoP champ and bitch all you want about how Yang handled himself at the final table, he's seems to be a decent human being and remembers where he came from.

~

Tonight starts Week 3 for Battle of the Blogger Tournaments 2 with the weekly MATH event. It seems this week Hoy is shaking things up by switching to a 6-max format. Shorthanded tourneys are an interesting tweak in the standard MTT mix, one that does not play into my uber-rockish tendencies. I may have to go tie a load on beforehand to loosen myself up. I've already figure out when I'll be switching one of the Riverchasers games to a different format also. I am the lucky guy who throws a tournament on both Thanksgiving Day and the day most bloggers are heading off to Vegas (myself included). Should be smaller fields with a good shot at the TOC.

We'll be giving away the 8th seat in the Tournament of Champions and so far we have not had a repeat winner. The change in point philosophy as well as the big honkin' grand prize has been drawing large numbers with seemingly a little better play. Speaking of big prizes, I hopefully should be able to announce before Wednesday's Mookie what we will be giving away for the players at the top of the overall leaderboard at the end of the challenge.

Hopefully you will think they are worthy.

Go grab yourself a Tier I token and see you at the MATH this evening. (also time to start working on those Tier II tokens, the next Blogger Big Game is scheduled for November 18th.)
