Big Cash, Fantasy Football and the Poker Ryder Cup

One good thing about spending the week recovering from a idiotic summer flu was that I was able to avoid thinking about the disappointment about where I should be at this very moment. Last January I made the decision that I would join my friends for their "destination" wedding. A little relaxation before the Bash and celebrate a couple young'ns stepping off the deep end. The destination was Oahu and my relaxation station was a little bungalow on the beach sipping every tropical drink I could find as long as it had the requisite umbrella, preferably served in a coconut or pineapple. Things fell through thanks to some unfortunate circumstances and I find myself sitting in the same old lazy boy watching the same old shitty day time TV.

Up until this point I've had the ragging fever and uncontrollable cough to keep my mind off it. They're both gone so now I'm feeling just a little salty about it.

I'll just curl up with my best friend Ms. Booze to get me through these troubling times. Congrats to my friends Billy and Danielle, I'm sure they're having a blast and I offered up my emergency Reverend services should their designated officiate fall through.

Go congratulate Evy on finishing 5th out of 1200 players in the Borgata Open Event #1. I found out yesterday morning that she made Day 2 and the final 36. I got caught up in working and didn't realize I missed the kickoff of Day 2 when Waffles sent me an IM saying "what is Evy's real name?". That sent up warning flags. I checked out Pauly's writeup on the Borgata Blog and saw that she was already 30 minutes late, getting blinded off. I knew she left with plenty of time to spare so I rang her up.

Nothing like your new SUV breaking down on the Skuykill Expressway, world's worst freeway, on your way to the biggest poker day of your life. When I talked to her she was still 5 miles outside of AC and breaking every traffic code on the books. Once she started playing she was way down then way up then way out in 5th place for a $20k+ pay day for a $300 buyin.

I certainly expect the first round of drinks to be on Evy at the Bash this year.

Cheers my friend.

My ongoing "List of 5" for the Bash has picked up a stellar addition to the party.

Doc Chako and The Wife. are booked for the entire weekend of golf, poker and party. Welcome to the craziness and see you in a few weeks.

Blinders will be running another Battle of the Blogger Fantasy Football Challenge over on Fantasy Sports Live this NFL season. Check out the link for game details. Dr. Pauly will also be running his Sunday's with Dr. Pauly football challenge on the site as well. I'll be playing in both challenges.

See you there.

During the last few Brit Blogger games I've been kicking around the idea with Acornman and Cloud of running a Ryder Cup style poker tournament putting US players up against UK players in a series of Head's Up matches. The details are coming together and I'm going to start putting together my 8 player team to take on the Brits. It will consist of 4 HU matches spread across Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st.

I'll have more details on Monday but feel free to let me know if you'd like to join Team USA for the "Ryder Cup Poker Tournament" *.

* - ABSOLUTELY no relation to the actual Ryder Cup and the name will be changed should anyone decide they'd like to send their big bad-assed lawyers after me. Suck it Monty.

I plan to make the trek to the Borgata to catch some the of the action, hang with Pauly during his brief moments of down time, and spend some quality time with the bartenders in the B-Bar. Drink well this weekend and hope to see on at the regular weekend games.

Death of a Drunk

The flop sweats then the chills. Stuffed head and tight chest. I somehow managed to get myself one of those nasty summer colds which makes you feel like death for a few days. I spent the night tossing and turning, I had the air conditioning set at meat locker levels than piled on the blankets. I wish I could remember some of those crazy fever-induced nightmares, I remember just enough to know they were spectacular.

I seriously thought I was on my death bed for about 12 hours there when I was passing in and out of a coma on the couch. A little melodramatic but it felt like a coma to me. Took some of the fun out of a long weekend, but I suppose with my current position every weekend is a long weekend. I've spent the last two days fading in and out, DVR is saving programs that I started watching then lost it somewhere in the middle. A testament to how shitty I feel, I haven't had a cigarette since sometime Sunday event and couldn't imagine choking one back any time soon.

This morning I'm starting to feel almost human, I ingested my first chunk of bacon since near-death. I'm ready to fire back up some poker tables and try to recall how to play that stupid game.

I was able to get into the two blogger games during the weekend. Saturday's with Pauly is always fun except when you know out both the McGrupp brothers with suckouts. I piddled my way to 5th place money when the suckout train picked me up and made a river winner of a nekkid 88xx versus my AAQJ(ds). I suppose since there were no other other McGrupp's to knockout that my day was coming to an end shortly either way.

Sunday I played in the Brit Blogger Game and I'm remembering why I like the game so much. It reminds me of the old days of blogger tournaments before the competition made them less fun to play. Of course a majority of that blame can be placed squarely on me, thank you Mr. BBT. Lots of good time banter and playing for the fun of it. Remember those days? This week we has some famous US bloggers on top of the regular UK players. Otis, Drizz, Daddy and Joanne made the stop on Labor Day Sunday to add a little spice. The US players did just as well as the US golfers will do in the Ryder Cup soon.

Speaking of the Ryder Cup, we're going to kick around some ideas for a US vs UK poker tournament. No big prizes, nothing crazy. Just playing for pride. I'll let you know if we come up with anything.
