Poker post before the booze posts

My Vegas writeups are always the toughest. I have huge chunks of memory that just don't exist, the common post-trip letdown, plus I'm detoxing like a mother f#$^er. Work immediately grabbed me by the junk the moment I was available and I haven't really even taken the time to read any other trip reports. I suppose I should start reading soon just to see who I might have offended with my drunken behavior. Like poker, it's all one long session except in my case it's one constant bender. I laid it out here plain as day that I planned to rip my liver out non-stop so no one should have been surprised. My friends who know me weren't, the ones who had never met me might have been wondering if I was sane. I'm not.

We can start with the easy part. Poker. Since I didn't even play that much this shouldn't take too long.

Thanks to a fantastic meal with friends at Nobhill Friday night it was practically impossible for me to get anywhere near a buzz that night. Fat/drunk was replaced with fat/happy. That all led to the very first time I showed up for a live blogger tournament where I wasn't wasted or hungover. Showing up alive and well at the Venetian was a weird feeling. Of course I wouldn't stay that way for long, but at least I showed up in one piece.

I wasn't in the poker room for more than 5 minutes before someone walks up with two shot glasses and smile. This was how BamBam decided to introduce himself to me. That's a good way to start. After signing up for the blogger tourney it was time for some pre-gaming at the Sportsbook. Drinks and shots and salutations. This is where I get to see most of the people who avoid the standard debauchery during the rest of the weekend. Then it was off to the poker table.

GCox and I drew seats 1 and 2 with glorious Waffles sitting in the 4 seat. If nothing else we were going to have a good time pounding on his big blind (not nearly as dirty as it sounds). Joaquin was sitting in the 10 seat and entered every pot. EVERY DAMNED POT. Maybe a slight exaggeration but not by much. I got shorty early when he cracked my QQ with K2sooooted. I laid the bitches down on the turn and he showed me his flush.

Then it was a whole lot of nothing. Picked up a couple of pots here and there to get back a little but Joaquin was making it tough to get frisky in a pot. I think we may have been the only table with decent cocktail service because I was getting more drinks than hands. After The Rooster raised for the 25th straight time, I had enough. It was donkey time. I leaned back in my seat, looking around the dealer, trying to get his attention.

One of us may have said "Push in the dark?" with the other saying "Sure!"

We both pushed our chips in the middle and I look at 88 before showing the table. Unfortunately The Crazy Rooster happened to find KK. Even more unfortunate was my 8 hitting the flop and the cheer goes up with another suckout. Sometime during the first break I was given an anonymous gift. Coming back to the table I found a horseshoe hanging in front of my seat. Rumor has it that Columbo dropped it my drink holder but I was never able to confirm with him. (let me tell you how much fun it was trying to explain to the evil TSA agent why I was sneaking a horseshoe in my carryon bag)

After the break I'm not sure how much Joaquin had left but he pushed his chips straight into my lovely AA. That's when my second premium hand would go down in flames to his KJ and I'm back to a crappy stack. I piddled around again and somewhere/sometime found aces again. This time I got them all-in versus Blinder's KK and (fill in the blank for me)'s QQ. Way too many outs for my puny little aces to dodge and Blinders caught his king on the flop I go to the bar now.

Three top hands completely shot to shit. It's a lovely game, not sure why more don't play it. At least I lasted longer than Waffles.

Ah well, it was back to the bar where I do some of my best work.

This is what I get for posting before reading a single trip report. The Rooster himself has a much better version up. Maybe I should post tomorrow about when he told a 60 year old Polish hooker that I had herpes and 3 kids.

At some point between busting out of the tourney and getting sloppy at the Sportsbook, somebody stopped by to mention that there was one hell of a final table going on. By the time I got my drunk ass to the poker room it was just getting down to the final two.

Otis versus My Nemesis Crackin' Aces Joaquin Da Roosta. Who do you think my dog was in this fight?

AlCantHang, the King of the Coolers.

Otis loses and Joaquin took down the whole shitbag for a wad o' cash and a golden hammer. Who knew that this would set off a bender where Joaquin, Derek, Irish Jim, and myself wouldn't see sleep until sometime late Sunday evening. Pauly caught Joaquin later in the morning to get his thoughts on his win.

Instant Classic.

Tomorrow I'll try to describe what happened between my time busting out of the tourney and kickoff of the NFL games. Whatever I can remember.

Hope to see a big turnout tonight for the last of the $11 buyins to win your way into the BBTwo TOC.

Alive and somewhat well

Not quite ready to post yet. It should take me a good 48 hours to get my memories properly formatted for distribution. The ass who said "everything in moderation" hasn't a clue. I continue to supply further truth. I'm afraid to even start ready the trip reports.

Get up Monday morning in Vegas, hop a flight back to Philly with a plane full of rowdy pissed off Brits, and the next logical step would have been to head home and start the recuperation.

Instead I went straight to the pub until closing time.
