Hello and Goodbye for now (I hope)

Last post for quite awhile since I'm getting on the jet aeroplane early tomorrow morning. There won't be much time for anything online because I don't plan to spend any time in my room. I plan to be 100 shades of fucked up four days running as I do my best to rip the last shred of dignity from my soul. I'll be a walking zombie as I move around from short shots of Soco to long shots at the table. I'll drink too much, fall down at least once, get lost in a casino because I forgot which one I was in, and probably get rolled by a hooker again leaving the craps table at Casino Royale. 100x's odds mofo! Nothing says low life degenerate gambler like pushing all-in at the craps table.

I'll try my best to be the little social butterfly while meeting up with writers for the first time that I admire and with old friends who know my darker side. But the siren call of the booze will be too strong as I try to silence my various demons. That lack of impulse control can really cause problems (I prefer to call it spontaneity but that's really just a river of denial) when I'm out and about with so many options to get myself in trouble.

Last December I spent a large amount of my time take advice from The Otis and raged solo. This year we can remove the solo part. It's just going to rage from front to back and it will probably not be pretty. I will not be offended if my drunk ass is not on the top of the list of those to meet. Being around me can be rough on a person. But if you happen to see a fat hippy sitting at the bar chain smoking and mainlining Southern, feel free to pull up a seat and have some fun. Not exactly sure if I'll remember your name the next day but we'll have blast sitting around getting shitty in the city.

In honor of Otis, here is his advice on raging solo.
Redemption in Raging Solo

In Vegas, one's opportunity for a solo rage is ubiquitous. For as long as he wants or as long as he can stand, he can prop himself up on the shoulders of friends. And when he is ready, he can step out into the dry air, blink at the lights, and start to walk. Where he stops--if he stops--is of little consequence. What matters is that he rages solo. It need not be a trip-long or even night-long event. It can last as long or short as he wants. It can be sober or drunk. It can start at one end of the strip and end at the other or it can start on one side of the street and be only bound by a crosswalk. What matters is the rage. It can cost $1,000 or $1. It just doesn't matter.

Raging solo--define it as you like--is the key. At the end is redemption. And with redemption comes a whole new way of looking at things.

One hundred and twenty. 120 sick twisted fuckers are traveling by air and car to meet up with the invisible internet friends and play a silly little game. That number makes me shake my head. When you walk into the Venetian Saturday afternoon to take your seat in the blogger game I want to you to take a good long look at the masses. Then on break I want you to go find Pauly, Derek, BoyGenius, and PokerProf and shake their hand.

Just a few years ago this yearly pilgrimage started simply with the Brothers McGrupp mentioning to BG about their annual gambling jaunt in December (it just so happens they were in the car after their first Bash at the Boathouse). A couple calls here and there, next thing you know a few more are going out. Then PokerProf mentions to Pauly that they can get a little private tournament for the few of us coming out. With an apology to all, nothing will ever beat that first day/night/morning bender at Sherwood Forrest.

Now it's 120. That's just sick. For that you need to go thank Falstaff for putting up with the monster challenge of organizing this year.

Since I'm obviously not going to be anywhere near my laptop I won't be able to award the BBTwo Player of the Week. I will put the Week 7 and Week 8 POW in the first $750k when I return. I hope everyone enjoys the shorty field for the Riverchasers game this week. Don't forget to check out BuddyDank radio tonight. He'll be live from Chad's house with MiamiDon and LJ.

Until next week, check out Pauly's new edition of Truckin'.

Truckin' - Decemer 2007, Vol. 6, Issue 12

1. Santa by Paul McGuire
Santa nodded off on the subway. He did that often, always after he copped. Friends would often tell him that they saw him passed out on the subway. They’d try to get his attention, but he was in his own world... More

2. Christmas Eve Dinner by Betty After Dark
Her legs still weak and her stance a bit wobbly, I wrapped my arm around her and led her out of the restaurant. The hotel was just a few blocks away. She was shivering. Was it the cold air or the orgasm?... More

3. Kelso McQuire by Johnny Hughes
The gamblers always stand in the back at West Texas funerals. In the middle of Kelso McQuire's funeral, Ice House Henry was whispering around and telling this fifty-year old story about Kelso, that not one living, breathing soul had ever heard before... More

4. Scared Santa by Dwayne Williamson
This amorphous blob of blood red fabric and snow white hair would release these grunts from its maw that shook my rib cage, causing me to tremble even more violently than before. Because Santa Clause scared the holy hell out of me... More

5. The Hunt by Gary Cox
When the son was young, the Father went deer hunting every year for a week at a time, right before Thanksgiving. The boy badly wanted to go with him, but was never considered old enough. He saw in his Father’s eyes how much he enjoyed that time, whether it was the actual hunt or the solitary time spent out there in the woods... More

6. Monday Evening LIVE in Theater! by Sigge S. Amdal
A middle-aged, disillusioned, smack-ridden woman in a wheelchair bemoans her disability when the subway seems one step too far. By the touch of a button she whirls off into the distant tunnel like the depart of an ancient ghoul... More

Bad Timing

I can either take the time to write about some silliness from this weekend or try to get some work done. I am battling through this last minute pre-Vegas head cold that has me grumpy and pissed the eff off. Trying to squeeze two weeks of work into the next two days isn't helping the cause either. I figure my mind, soul, and brain should be out of commission for at least the week after Vegas, longer if I do the trip properly.

I'd love to tell you about the cougar convention at the pub on Saturday, complete with dancing on the bar and their might have been body shots but things are a bit fuzzy from around that time. There were dial-a-shots missed and made, several dead bottles, and 2 back-to-back 12 hour shifts sitting on a bar stool supporting my local booze provider. I would suggest finding the company that makes those Mega-Touch bar games and buying stock. Mind numbing games to go along with the mind numbing elixirs. Sunday started with a beer and cheese steak then ended with shots of Soco, Tequila, and some odd cold medicine.

But those are all the things that I don't have to tell you about. Work and Vegas preparations. Hit me up for a shot in Vegas and I'll tell you all the stories that I can't put down on the web at this moment.

Congrats to whiskigrl for taking down the MATH last night and the 21st entry in the TOC and getting a jump on the Player of the Week entry. The next two events should be interesting as a large chunk of bloggers head off to Vegas. I suspect these will be the smallest fields of the challenge and a great opportunity to win your way in while we blind ourselves on various substances.

Time for me to get get my shit together and my head in the right place.
