Linkin' em up

Since I'm actually taking some time out of my busy Saturday morning to write a link up post, when I should really be researching college football betting patterns, I might as well start off with two links for the upcoming trip to Vegas. It seems there are going to be a ton of old timers and newbies. For entertainment purposes, check out on_thg's monster set of betting lines for the long weekend. Since I have my own line, I will refrain from giving away any information (TAKE THE OVER).

More importantly is Dr. Pauly's yearly Vegas tips and reminders. Just two clarifications from my perspective. I'm not the least bit proud that I drink heavily most days of the week, but keep that in mind if you have the idea to stay on pace with me that I drink fast and for a long stretch. I welcome anyone that wants to come along for the ride but be prepared to go several bottles deep before coming out on the other end. That leads to the most important tip for Vegas from Pauly.

DON'T DIE

As Pauly says, we haven't lost one yet. But if not done correctly you will spend 4 straight days with no sleep, way too much booze, very little sleep, and some -EV gambling. I consider that the perfect trip yet some might find themselves in an unfortunate situation. Stay alive!

You have until December 12th to get your post up and email Full Tilt. They will be making the decision on who gets the two extra spots in the Battle of the Blogger Tournaments Aussie Millions freeroll. Be sure to check them out and let them know what you think.

Proud Uncle

Well it's certainly been an interesting few days away from the webbers. Didn't mean to be completely fatalistic with my last post. Getting a post up quickly was important, more time spent writing meant less time sitting in front of a bottle that desperately wanted emptying. Shutting down ye ol' blog is going to happen sooner or later but no time soon. I have plans in mind for the next 12 months so it wasn't a vague, navel gazing, woo-is-me statement. Just throwing it out there that it's going to happen.

~

Amateur night at the new bar was everything I expected. It was a nice big crowd considering they only had 3 nights under their belt. Steve's brilliant idea to bring in people to work that are used to high volume paid off. Luckily there weren't too many people playing fast and loose with their bar etiquette, not many people were shredded by a Terri rebuke. There was a large population of eye candy walking around and thanks to the above normal weather we were treated to high-quality low-quantity clothing.

I took it fairly easy knowing I had the next day with the family which I try not to do with a full blown hangover. Still, 12 hours at the bar is going to do some damage.

Thanksgiving was a pleasant day with the family. I was filled up several times with more food than I've eaten in months separated by sleeping through watching the afternoon football games. One very cool moment makes me think about you breeders out there, probably one of those rare moments you wait for with your kids that makes changing the diapers, foreign colored shit, and vomit worth every second.

My 8 year old niece was telling me about their in car entertainment during the ride down. I expected the standard fare of mindless drivel parents let their kids suckle on but I was a little surprised when she said she was watching Star Wars on the trip. Sure it was probably her old man that made that decision so I asked her if it was Phantom Menace or one of the "new" Star Wars movies.

She rolled her eyes in that way only an 8 year old girl can do. Then she dropped the bomb, "No Uncle Al, don't you know anything. I only watch Empire Strikes Back. The new ones stink and I hate the one with the teddy bears." She then spent the next several minutes doing a very passable Yoda imitation.

Never has an uncle been more proud.

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

Dorothy Parker - Resume
Posting that for no other reason then it makes Gracie happy when I quote Dorothy Parker. That, and apparently I was on some danger list the other night when I failed to appear in the MATH tournament. It seems that my inability to bounce back from a 16 hour bender was cause for concern when I chose my nice comfy mattress over a 6 handed turbo luckfest. Also would have helped had my phone been by my side rather than hidden deep in the couch cushions.

My friends also want to have an intervention. But not the fun kind where they tell me what a drunk ass I am.

They want me to shut my site down and I can't say I necessarily disagree with their position. Post number 1,000 is in the near future, I have some thinking to do.

~

In the mean time I'm hitting the showers and will be sitting bar-side before you leave work. This will be the first time in years that I'm going out in public on the night before Thanksgiving. For the uninitiated, tonight is the king of amateur nights in the bars. More drunken beginners and newbies than New Year's Eve and St. Patrick's Day combined. But we must support the new bar.

We'll see how the crowd goes, if they are too annoying I should be back in time to play the Mookie.

The Riverchasers game is scheduled as usual tomorrow evening. This may be a great opportunity to win your way into the TOC since I expected the turnout to be smaller thanks to the holiday.

Have a good Thanksgiving.

Maybe I should go to a meeting

I received two text messages early last week saying "Sunday, 11am". These tiny little messages are what set up Monday as my day of rest and recovery. Both messages were announcing when the new bar would be opened for business and something I had been looking forward to. Steve, head man in charge of getting me loopy at the Boathouse, spent the last month and a half getting his brand new bar adventure setup. World famous Terri The Bartender came along of the ride to help run the show even more increasing the odds that this will be my last "regular" bar before my liver gives out or my soul completely disintegrates.

Did I mention that bar is walking distance from my house?

I avoided all things booze on Saturday night even opting to crash early. Sunday planned to be a long day, my plan was to buy the first drink and last drink. I'm not so sure if I bought the last one but it will be my dollar and my picture hanging on the wall. My first drink was at 11am and I bought my last beer at closing time 2am. By the time all was said and done, it was a solid near 16 hour shift of stupidity. Hence my day of rest on Monday and desperate calls to make sure that I was alive.

The day was spent drinking, watching football, and enjoying the new environment. The bar is built for the happy drunkard looking to have a little fun. Shuffleboard, Golden Tee (brand spanking newest version), pool table, and MegaTouch for BigMike. They even added a nice little touch which floored myself and BigMike. I can't wait to get the pictures.

Our names engraved on our own barstools. Fuckin' aye.

~

I'm proud of what my friends have done, this is something they've all wanted for a long time and they finally get to see it come true. They've put a ton of work to get the bar ready to go and it was needed. Tyler James Pub in P-ville (still working on the proper site if there are any web designers out there). It's a remarkable job from what the bar used to be to what they've gotten out of it. They've built themselves my new little comfort zone where I know I can relax with a few (too many) shots and enjoy the company of friends.

So officially, for the record, we will no longer hold the party formally known as Bash at the Boathouse.

Now it will just be called The Bash. Mark your calendars, plan your vacation, bring your A game. The Bash 2008 is scheduled for the weekend of September 27th.

Good luck to my friends and I will do all I can to raise the profits through the roof.

Obviously I did not make the Big Game on Sunday or the MATH last night. It was well past midnight before it even occurred to me on Sunday that I was missing the Big Game. Yesterday I was embedded deeply into the lazy boy getting up only if the dog needed walking or to save the pizza delivery man from Mr. Dog.

Congrats to VinNay on the Big Game win and the sicked fucker in the world, Daddy, for taking down the MATH last night. The Leaderboard and Week 5 results are updated and loaded. My participation in the Mookie this week is up in the air as I'll probably suspend my boycott of the most amateur of drinking nights. I will be there for the Riverchasers game on Thursday and that will probably be one of the smaller fields thanks to the holiday making it easier to get into the TOC.

Cheers and thanks to everyone who checked on my health yesterday. Yes, I am alive. It takes more than 16 straight hours of drinking to hold me down.
